Youngest COVID-19 fatality in Sri Lanka reported from LRH

COLOMBO (News 1st): A 20-day-old male infant who tested positive for COVID-19 passed away, at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH) on Tuesday evening (Dec. 08), hospital sources confirmed. "The 20-day-old infant was admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital at around 4:00 am today (08). At the time of admission the infant was in critical condition with severe Pneumonia," Dr. G. Wijesuriya, the Director at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH) told News 1st on Tuesday (Dec. 08). Thereby, the infant who was immediately transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), was connected to the ventilator and treated throughout the day. "The infant was confirmed COVID-19 positive in the afternoon, while it was also confirmed that the parents were not exposed to the virus," Dr. Wijesuriya further noted. According to Dr. Wijesuriya, the infant had passed away at around 4:00 pm on Tuesday evening. This is the youngest COVID-19 fatality reported in Sri Lanka.
