Colombo (News 1st); The Ragama Police was ordered by the Wattala Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala on Wednesday (02) to report to the court on Friday (04) of the steps taken with respect to the bodies of the COVID-19 infected prisoners killed in Sunday’s Mahara Prison Riot.
The Ragama Police was ordered to take the necessary steps to have a representative of the Attorney General’s Department and a responsible health officer present in the court, to present facts on the matter.
Senaka Perera, a lawyer with the Committee for Protecting Rights of Prisoners filed a motion with the court on Wednesday (02), and thus an order was made.
The counsel told the court if the bodies are cremated as per the provisions of the COVID-19 prevention regulations, those responsible for their deaths will be able to evade prosecution and requested the court to issue an order on the matter.
