Cyclone Burevi: DMC, Tri-Forces & SL Police prepared to face any disaster

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Disaster Management Centre and the respective District Secretariats are fully prepared to face any disaster situation that may arise with cyclonic storm Burevi set to make landfall this evening (Dec. 02), Major General (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne, Secretary of Defence said. "The Ministry of Defence has issued instructions to the Sri Lanka Army Commanding Officers of the North-Eastern and Vanni areas to engage with the District Secretariats, Deputy Secretaries, and all relevant government offices to prevent any damages to the people in the event of a disaster. Further, the relevant instructions and the required equipment were provided to conduct relief operations with regard to those affected in the event of a disaster," Major General (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne further noted. According to the Defence Secretary, the Disaster Management Centre is continuously in contact with the District Secretariats, Sri Lanka Army Commanding Officers, Senior Police Officers, and Health authorities to minimize the damages from Cyclone Burevi and provide relief to anyone affected immediately. "The Disaster Management Centre, the Tri-Forces, and Sri Lanka Police under the purview of the Ministry of Defence are fully prepared to face any disaster that may occur in line with the Cyclonic storm Burevi," Defence Secretary Major General (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne re-iterated.
