COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Archaeology has successfully uncovered 650 archaeological monuments following excavations conducted in the Batticaloa district.
The excavations are conducted across the Eastern province, under the supervision of the Presidential Task Force for Archaeological Heritage Management in the Eastern Province, Prof. Senarathe Dissanayake, the Director-General of Archaeology told News 1st on Wednesday (Dec. 02).
According to Prof. Dissanayake, further noted this was the first time, an extensive excavation was conducted in the Batticaloa district in the 125 history of the Department of Archaeology.
