Colombo (News 1st); The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka urged The Commissioner General of Prison to take necessary preventive measures to protect the life of Former CID Director Shani Abeysekara, who exposed to COVID-19 at the Mahara Prison.
The letter was issued concerning a complaint received to the commission on a possible life threat to SSP Shani Abeysekera, with the infection of the COVID-19 virus.
Former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) SSP Shani Abeysekara was placed in remand at the Mahara Prison and was later transferred to the Welikada Prison Hospital for treatment after he was tested positive.
The letter recommends the Commissioner-General of Prisons immediately transfer him to the nearest hospital treating people infected with the virus.
The letter also requests the Prison Commissioner-General to send the Human Right Commission on his observations about the matter and details of action taken in response including the preventive measures adopted before the 30th of this month.
