Colombo (News 1st);  Sri Lanka Police said its personnel were informed to assist in the re-opening of schools across the island if a request of such nature is made by the health authorities.

Speaking to News 1st Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said Traffic Police Officers were informed to supervise the transportation of school students.

He stressed transport services must adhere to the health guidelines.

Schools across the Island excluding those in the Western province and the isolated areas, re-opened on Monday (23) begin the third term of studies.

The Ministry of Education said schools will open only for students of Grade 06 to 13.

Furthermore, all Piriven institutions and Seela Matha institutions excluding those located in the Western province and isolated areas will resume studies on Monday (23).

On Sunday (22), Education Secretary Professor Kapila Perera speaking to News 1st said as per the circular 15/2020 on the re-opening of schools, the Education Secretary will take responsibility for the matter.
