COVID-19 cases from Sri Lankan prisons rise to 652

COLOMBO (News 1st): The total number of COVID-19 cases reported from Sri Lankan prisons has risen to 652 after another 35 cases were detected, the Prisons Department said on Sunday (Nov. 22). According to the Department of Prisons, 31 inmates and four prison officials are among the new cases confirmed. Of the 652 cases recorded, 609 were inmates and 43 were Prison officials, Chandana Ekanayake, the Commissioner (Administration) of the Department of Prisons said. "A total of 26 COVID-19 infected inmates and prison officials have so far recovered and discharged from the Welikanda Hospital," he further noted. The infected inmates and prison officials are receiving treatment at the Galkanda Quarantine Centre in Polonnaruwa, Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, Mulleriyawa Base Hospital and the Prisons Hospital.
