25 prison officers in Quarantine

All COVID-19 infected prisoners to be moved to Treatment Facilities

Colombo (News 1st);  The Department of Prisons instructed all its personnel at Colombo Prisons to remain in the official quarters or single quarters for a period of two weeks.

The decision was made after 159 COVID-19 cases were reported from prisons.

The Department of Prisons confirmed 03 COVID-19 cases were reported from the Bossa Prison, where high-profile convicts are incarcerated.

In addition, Prison Officers attached to the Welikara, Welikada Women's Ward, Colombo Remand, and Magazine Prisons will not be permitted to leave the premises until further notice.

In addition, the COVID-19 cases treated at the Welikada Prison Hospital were transferred to the Kandakadu Treatment Center.

All COVID-19 cases reported from prisons will be directed to the Kandakadu or Gallella Treatment facilities from Friday (13).

Female inmates who are infected with COVID-19 are moved to the Welikanda Treatment Facility.

All COVID-19 infected prisoners are currently detained at the Welikada Prison Hospital, Pallansena, and Bogambara Prisons.

The Department of Prisons said the Welikada Prison Hospital will be used to quarantine prisoners, once the COVID-10 cases are transferred to treatment facilities.

In addition, 25 prison officers are in quarantine at the Angunukolapelessa Prison Quarters.
