AG issues revised guidelines to address prison overcrowding

Colombo (News 1st); Attorney General Dappula De Livera has issued revised instructions & guidelines to the Acting IGP to grant bail to suspects in remand and file charges against them in order to reduce prison overcrowding.
The instructions & guidelines were issued at the request of the Justice Minister, considering the COVID-19 spread across remand prisons in the country.
This was confirmed to News 1st by State Counsel Nishara Jayarate, the coordinating officer to the Attorney General.
