COLOMBO (News1st): A probe has been launched into the sudden death of a newborn's mother in Marawila suspected to have contracted COVID-19. The deceased woman was admitted to the Marawila Hospital on October 15 to give birth to her child, before being discharged and re-admitted on October 31. Family members allege that the hospital had not provided the mother with the required treatment. "When we took our daughter to the hospital, we were isolated due to the suspicion of COVID 19. My daughter was not treated," the mother of the deceased said. The husband of the woman also echoed similar sentiments. "They didn't do anything. At least they could have transferred her to the Intensive Care Unit," he said. "They isolated my wife in the isolation ward and let her die". Dinusha Fernando, the Puttalam district's deputy director of health services, citing the PCR test results of the woman, said she had not been infected with the virus. She added that the woman may have died due to complications that arose after giving birth.
