Quarantine Curfew in effect across 65 police areas

Additional Police Officers deployed to enforce quarantine curfew

Colombo (News 1st); The Quarantine Curfew is in effect across 65 police areas across the country, after Hatton Town was added to the list of isolated areas.

15 Police areas in Colombo City, 37 Police areas in Gampaha, 05 Police areas in Kuliyapitiya, and 03 Police areas in the Kalutara District and Hatton are under quarantine curfew.

Further, the quarantine curfew is in effect in 04 suburbs of Colombo which are Welikada, Wellampitiya, Gothatuwa, and Mulleriyawa.

DIG Ajith Rohana urged the general public to refrain from entering Fort and Pettah in Colombo to commute by bus and train noting following the quarantine curfew coming into effect, transportation services have been suspended in those areas.

He said Sri Lanka Police observed certain segments in the community openly violating the health guidelines when using public transport in various parts of the island.

During the 24 hour period ending at 06 AM on Tuesday, Sri Lanka Police arrested 46 people for violating the quarantine curfew and other quarantine regulations while 07 vehicles were seized.

From the 04th of October, Sri Lanka Police arrested 1122 people and seized 163 vehicles.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspects will be charged as per the provisions of the quarantine law and the Sri Lanka Penal Code.

Sri Lanka Police deployed additional personnel to areas under quarantine curfew to arrest violators and strictly enforce the law.
