Colombo (News 1st);  The Quarantine Curfew is currently in effect across 64 police areas in Sri Lanka.

On Monday (26), the public from 37 police areas that were under quarantine curfew were permitted to make essential purchases from grocery stores and pharmacies as well as to visit banks for urgent needs.

However, the relief period was abused by segments in the community in those areas, said DIG Ajith Rohana adding intelligence personnel observed the quarantine curfew was violated by many in Kadawatha and surrounding police areas.

Sri Lanka Police arrested 20 people for violating the quarantine regulations on Monday (26) and legal action will be instituted against them, said the Deputy Police Chief.

Over the past 08 hours, Sri Lanka Police seized 09 vehicles for violating the quarantine regulations.

He said if the general public tends to abuse the relief period during quarantine curfew, the regulations would strictly be enforced against the violators.

Further, Sri Lanka Police observed the general public failed to comply with the health guidelines when using public and private transport services.

If the general public continues to violate the quarantine regulations, strict action will be taken against them as per the provisions of the gazette issued on the 05th of October, said DIG Ajith Rohana.

Only people involved in essential services and related services will be permitted to enter areas that are under quarantine curfew for official purposes.

Further, students sitting for the advanced level examination and examination staff are permitted to travel across those areas.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the quarantine curfew imposed for many areas across the country will remain in place under further notice.
