COVID-19 numbers in SL continue to rise

COVID-19 numbers in Sri Lanka on the rise, with 109 cases on Wednesday(21)

Colombo (News 1st); 109 COVID-19 cases reported as of 1700 hours on Wednesday (21), said Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, who is also the Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

49 of these cases are from the Peliyagoda Fish Market, said the Department of Government Information.

The Public Health Inspector's Office for Peliyagoda said 100 traders at the Peliyagoda Fish Market were subject to PCR tests on Wednesday.

It added there are more than 1000 traders and workers at the Peliyagoda Fish Market and all of them will be subject to PCR tests.

The Ministry of Fisheries said the Peliyagoda Fish Market will remain closed until advice is given to re-open by the Health Authorities.

37 COVID-19 cases were reported from Quarantine Centres and the other 23 cases are classified as Close Contacts, said the Army Commander.

Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported from the Minuwangoda COVID-19 cluster is 2451.
