Mother and Child test positive for COVID-19 at Lady Ridgeway Hospital

Colombo (News 1st); Two COVID-19 patients were detected while receiving treatment at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo and they were identified as a woman and her 2-years-and-four-month-old child from Wellampitiya.

Director of the Hospital Dr. G. Wijesuriya told News 1st the child was admitted to the hospital on Sunday (18)and is among the three patients suspected by hospital authorities to have COVID-19.

As a precaution, they were moved to an isolated ward and PCR tests were conducted, following which the results on Monday (19) confirmed they contracted the virus.

Dr. Wijesuriya said based on contact tracing it was discovered the father of the child who is employed at a private establishment in Borella had contracted the virus first.

Dr. Wijesuriya said the mother and child detected at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children were transferred to the National Institute for Infectious Diseases (IDH).

He went on to note an employee at the hospital tested positive for COVID-19 almost a week ago, and PCR tests of all her contacts returned as negative.
