Colombo (News 1st): The Ministry of Justice has called on the general public to express their ideas and views with regards to the drafting of the new Constitution.
In a release, the Ministry of Justice states that any member of the public who wishes to submit any proposal relating to the drafting of the new Constitution can send their submissions to the Secretary of the Expert Committee appointed to draft a new constitution.
Proposals can be submitted in Sinhala, Tamil or English.
Submission can be made under 12 topics which are...
1) Nature of the State
2) Fundamental Rights
3) Language
4) Directive Principals of State Policy
5) The Executive
6) The Legislature
7) Franchise and Elections including Referendum
8) Decentralization, Devolution of Power and Power Sharing
9) The Judiciary
10) Public Finance
11) Public Security
12) Any other area of interest that is not referred above
All proposals must be submitted on or before the 30th of November.
The release also adds that the Committee would appreciate it if the submissions are made as concisely as possible.
