Colombo (News 1st); The National Operation Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak said 226 patients were receiving treatment at the Kamburugamuwa hospital in Matara as at 5 am on Thursday (15).

Among them, 210 were employees at the Brandix factory while 16 patients were contacts of these workers.

The Kamburugamuwa hospital has surpassed its existing capacity by 26 patients.

The Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital in Malabe holds the highest capacity of treating COVID-19 patients and is treating 172 patients at present.

The hospital is capable of treating 228 patients as well.

The Hambantota District General Hospital is currently treating 166 patients.

It is capable of treating 20 additional patients.

Meanwhile, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Angoda is treating 158 patients at present.

Among them, 94 are employees attached to the Brandix factory while 21 are close contacts of them.

The facility is currently treating 38 more patients than its capacity.

According to statistics of the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19, the Welikanda Base Hospital, Iranawila hospital, Teldeniya Hospital, and the Kattankudy Hospital are treating patients above their capacity.

That figure stands at 89.
