Student at Kelaniya University confirmed COVID-19 positive

COLOMBO (News 1st): A student at the University of Kelaniya has tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe, the Director of Media at the Kelaniya University. According to Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe, the COVID-19 patient is a student at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Kelaniya University. "The student was confirmed COVID-19 positive yesterday (Oct. 10). She is a resident of Minuwangoda and a close contact of a COVID-19 patient at the Minuwangoda Apparel Factory," Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe told News 1st on Sunday (Oct. 11). He said, "After the student was confirmed COVID-19 positive, two others at her dormitory were also subjected to PCR tests yesterday." "The COVID-19 positive student had last attended University on the 30th of September and all academic activities at the university were suspended on October 4th. Health authorities suspect she contracted the virus from her household," Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe further added. Around 11 others who maintained contacts with her were directed for basic health check-ups with regard to COVID-19 and are awaiting results, according to Senior Lecturer Rupasinghe, the Media Director at Kelaniya University.
