COLOMBO (News 1st): Fairly heavy rainfalls exceeding 75mm are likely in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, the Department of Meteorology said in its forecast for today (Oct. 11).

“Temporary enhancement of windy and showery conditions over the island, particularly over the South-western parts; is expected during the next few days starting tonight (Oct. 11), due to the fairly active South-West monsoon,” the Met Department predicted.

Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Strong gusty winds of about 50-60 kmph are also likely across the island, particularly in the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts and in the western slopes of the central hills, the forecast further read.
