Visitation suspended across all prisons in the country

Colombo (News 1st);  The Department of Prisons announced on Monday (05) visitors will no longer be permitted to enter prisons until further notice. Commissioner (Administration) of the Department of Prisons Chandana Ekanayake speaking to News 1st said the decision was made taking into account the present situation in the country and to protect the lives of the prisoners. "Prisons are considered as high-risk areas. If an inmate contracts the virus it would lead to a disastrous situation," said Ekanayake.
