Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Customs said it will make submissions to the court on the 15th of October over the repatriation of 21 waste containers to the UK.

The department noted separate investigations are underway over these containers and 242 other waste containers that are in the country.

It added compensation would be obtained from the relevant companies upon completing the investigations.

According to the customs department, the required compensation cannot be obtained until investigations conclude.

The department pointed out 21 waste containers imported to the country had been returned to the UK at around 6:15 pm on Sunday.

It said they were among the 263 waste containers imported from the UK in an unlawful manner in December 2017.

However, Sri Lanka Customs observed the 21 waste containers were not among the 242 containers that were subjected to controversy in the recent past.
