President insists local production of high-quality fabrics

COLOMBO (News1st):  President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has stated that large and small scale local manufacturers should immediately start producing high-quality fabrics. Upon visiting the Industrial Estate in Dankotuwa, the President had inquired the possibility of assigning a greater percentage of orders of school and military uniforms to local manufacturers from next year. Manufacturers had complained that several companies had to be closed down due to the coupon system implemented for school uniforms, the President's Media Division said. He encouraged the management of companies to resume production of textiles and instructed them to look into the possibility of providing school clothing-related materials to those who are engaged in self-employment. The President had noted that the cost incurred on imports can be cut down by 68 percent by increasing local textile production.
