COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) will inspect material samples of the building that caved-in and collapsed in Buwelikada, Kandy, NBRO officials said on Sunday (Sept. 27)
The quality of the building will be inspected by obtaining samples of parts from the collapsed building, the NBRO said.
Accordingly, samples of concrete pieces and other parts from the collapsed building, have been brought to the NBRO head office in Colombo.
The reports of the inspections will be handed over to the Governor of the Central Province and the Kandy District Secretariat in the coming days.
Based on investigations conducted so far, the sub-standard state of the building’s foundation was determined as the cause of the collapse, the National Building Research Organisation noted.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Police has recorded a statement from the owner of the company in Matale, which undertook the contract of the building’s construction.
A team was conducting further investigations, and facts will be presented in court with regard to the incident, once the investigation report of the National Building Research Organisation is released, Police said on Sunday (Sept. 27).
