20A, a result of government's internal rift : Sajith Premadasa

COLOMBO (News1st): The 20th amendment has been brought forward as a result of the government's internal power struggle, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has said. "If constitutional changes are taking place, it must be done for the future of the country, the people, and their betterment," Premadasa said on Sunday. He insisted that the 20th amendment had been defeated to protect the favourable environment that was created through its preceding amendment. The opposition leader noted that the amendment must also seek to end the power struggle between the President and the Prime Minister by granting them powers. "Through this, we can create a democratic system in which neither the president nor the prime Minister will have too much power," Premadasa observed. He made these remarks during a visit to Polonnaruwa today.
