COLOMBO (News1st): Several protests were staged by unemployed graduates and students who had completed their advanced level exams in Colombo on Thursday. Graduates who had obtained an external degree in Bachelor of Arts on May 1 last year staged a protest stating that they have been unable to receive jobs as they had been unable to complete their degrees on time. "The degree, which should be completed in 3 years, dragged on for 9 years," one protestor complained. The demonstration had been staged at the agitation site set-up for protests opposite the presidential secretariat for the second consecutive day. Meanwhile, a group of students who sat for the G.C.E Advanced Level examination in Biology last year also staged a protest at the agitation site this morning. They said that they have not been enrolled in a state university despite receiving adequate results. The protestors demanded the government to increase the intake of students enrolled to universities under the stream of biology.
