'No point to close stable door after horse had bolted', Bimal warns over 20A

Colombo (News 1st); The JVP says it has serious concerns as to whether the 20th Amendment to the Constitution was prepared by the United States of America.

The JVP's National Organizer Bimal Ratnayake speaking to reporters said when strong criticism was made against the 20th Amendment, no one in government accepted responsibility for it.

"The 20th Amendment is an orphan child inside the government," said Ratnayake adding the President must own up to the 20th Amendment or reveal if it was prepared by the US.

He further alleged due process was not followed with regards to the presentation of the so-called 20th Amendment to the Constitution even in the Cabinet stage.

Speaking further, Bimal Ratnayake said the ruling faction is working towards securing a 2/3 majority but has failed to utter a single word against handing over the East Container Terminal to India.

"If the country is to survive, we must defeat the move to pass the 20th Amendment to the Constitution," said Bimal Ratnayake.

There was a rift between Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe over the 19th Amendment to the Constitution because both wanted more power, said Bimal Ratnayake.

There is no point to close the stable door after the horse has bolted, he said as a warning to the public adding, the rights of the people must be protected.
