Colombo (News 1st); Attorney-at-Law Indika Gallage on Tuesday (22) filed a petition with the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka challenging the bill titled the “20th Amendment to the Constitution”.
The petition states certain amendments included in the bill are in violation of The Constitution Of The Democratic Socialist Republic Of Sri Lanka adding if the amendments are passed, it threatens the mandate of the people.
Further, the petition filed through Attorney-at-Law Darshana Weraduwa requests the Supreme Court to issue a determination stating the bill should be passed with a 2/3 majority in Parliament as well as a referendum.
