Colombo (News 1st); Ruling Party Member of Parliament A. L. M. Athaullah was forced to leave the Parliament Chamber on Tuesday (22) morning after objections were raised regarding the attire worn by the MP.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) demanded Athaullah be removed from Parliament and was accused of wearing attire not suitable for Parliament
Opposition MPs continued to object Athaullah’s attire and thereafter Athaullah himself withdrew from the House.
He later returned to the Parliament Chamber with special approval from Speaker.
Sergeant-at-Arms of the Sri Lankan Parliament Narendra Fernando speaking to News 1st said though the MP was wearing an attire not suitable for Parliament, considering his health condition, the Speaker permitted the MPs to attend today's sittings in the said attire.
However, there is a dress code MPs must follow when entering Parliament, he said.
