Colombo (News 1st); The Department of Agriculture said Sri Lanka would be self-sufficient in Turmeric by the end of 2021.
Director-General of the Department of Agriculture Dr. A.P. Heenkenda speaking to News 1st said annually 5,300 Metric Tonnes of turmeric were imported to Sri Lanka for local consumption.
He said following the suspension of imports of 10 different types of spices, Sri Lanka farmers are keener on cultivating turmeric to meet the local demand.
