Three-member committee appointed to further probe tremors in Central Hills

Colombo (News 1st); The Geological Survey & Mines Bureau (GSMB) of Sri Lanka appointed a three-member committee to further study and probe the recent tremors experienced in the central hills.

The Chairman of the Geological Survey & Mines Bureau Anura Walpola speaking to News 1st said the committee will comprise of Professors and Doctors from the Universities of Peradeniya and Moratuwa.

The committee is expected to explore the reasons for the tremors and recommend long-term solutions, said the Geological Survey & Mines Bureau (GSMB), Chairman.

Over the recent weeks, tremors were experienced in the Kandy District and the GSMB noted that a tremor was experienced at 11:30 PM on Friday the 11th of September.

The tremor was experienced in Kundasale, Panvila, and Wattegama as well.

The Geological Survey & Mines Bureau (GSMB) said the tremor was recorded at 04 separate stations adding tremors were experienced in these areas before as well.
