Education Ministry says NO to sporting events with direct physical contact

Colombo (News 1st); Organizing sporting events with direct physical contact and zero social distancing will not be permitted, announced the Education Ministry adding the decision was made as the risk of COVID-19 remains.

Sporting events in schools are classified into 04 categories based on the risk for participants.

The Education Ministry said considering the pandemic situation and current epidemiological situation in the country only sports where physical distancing can be clearly maintained or Individual Sports will be allowed.

Further, sporting events where teams are involved and social distancing can be maintained for a long period will also be allowed on the condition that health guidelines are strictly followed.
