Navy rescue team visits injured 03rd Engineer of MT New Diamond

Colombo (News 1st); The three-member rescue team who saved the life of the third engineer of the fire-stricken MT New Diamond, got an opportunity to share a light moment and wish him a speedy recovery on Sunday 13th September 2020.

The Navy sprang into action to bring ashore the injured third engineer of MT New Diamond and rush him to hospital for immediate treatment following the oil tanker caught fire on 03rd September.

After receiving treatment from the Kalmunai Base Hospital, the Filipino national is under the care at a private hospital in Colombo now.

Meeting with the rescuee, the members of the rescue team, Lieutenant KGASM Wijerathne, Leading Engineering Mechanic, DLK Mudiyanse and, Able Seaman WGGU Senarathne shared their experiences of the past turn of events.

It was a daring effort to bring the third engineer who was lying on an alleyway in the upper deck, surrounded by flames and smoke, to the weather deck due to the prevailing situation aboard.

As opined by the Filipino national, it was the good fortune of him to be saved by the naval personnel who made a determined and strenuous effort to retrieve him out of the danger hastily.

The prompt decision making and resolve of the Commanding Officer of SLNS Ranarisi which reached the site of the distressed ship first, paved the way for the Navy yet again to pull a life at stake from the jaws of death.

While taking this opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude to the Good Samaritans of the Navy for rescuing his life from a great peril, the third engineer was also extremely grateful to the Sri Lanka Navy and all Sri Lankans.
