Over 1600 postal vacancies: 2019 Annual Report shows

COLOMBO (News 1st): At present, there are around 1633 vacancies in various grades in the Postal Department, the 2019 Annual Report of the Department of Posts indicates.

The report points out that the current shortage of staff has adversely affected the efficiency and quality of the Department’s operations.

According to the report, a significant number of vacancies in the mail distribution sector has obstructed the efficient distribution of letter.

Although there is a decline in the circulation of personal letters, there is a significant growth in the capacity of business letters, packets, and parcels, the 2019 Annual report of the Department of Posts shows.

The report further points out that although the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, has instructed to implement a proper methodology to address the issues with regard to the distribution of letters in the estate regions, the current shortage of staff has hindered addressing these issues.
