2nd round of interviews for registration of political parties, today: NEC

COLOMBO (News 1st): The second round of interviews for the registration of political parties will be held on Wednesday (Sep 09), election officials said. Accordingly, the 2nd round of interviews for 20 political parties selected from the 1st round will be held on Wednesday, the National Elections Commission said. According to the NEC, 20 parties out of 159 new parties that applied for registration, were selected for 2nd round of interviews. The requirements to register a new political party include, being an active political component for 4 years continuously, adequate funds to maintain a party, and active political participation. Thereby, during the 2nd round of interviews today (Sep 09), only parties that fulfill all the requirements will be selected for registration. The list of selected parties will be announced in the future. The registration of new parties is being held after 5 years, the National Elections Commission further noted.
