COLOMBO (News 1st): The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau on Saturday (Sep 05) revealed that tremors felt in the Kandy district, were triggered due to the release of pressure in weak layers of rock. This was confirmed following an in-depth analysis conducted by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, regarding the tremors felt in the area, officials said. A team consisting of six members had conducted an in-depth analysis into the tremors recorded in Kandy, after visiting the affected areas. The report compiled following the analysis was received, Anura Walpola, the Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, said. Chairman, Anura Walpola further emphasized that permission from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau should be obtained prior to conducting any form of excavations in the area.
