Engine drivers withdraw from operating trains with Chinese compartments

COLOMBO (News1st): The Railway Engine Drivers Association has said it would withdraw from operating trains with Chinese compartments, officials said. This was due to a fault in the brake systems of these compartments, according to the union secretary Indika Dodangoda. Steps are being taken to replace these compartments with those without defects, railways general manager Dilantha Fernando said on Tuesday. The railway control room confirmed that there will be no cancellation of trains due to this reason.
