COLOMBO (News1st): Former Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) chairman D.E.W. Gunasekara has lamented over the delay in taking action against the suspects involved in the central bank bond scam. "Five years have passed and the punishment is yet to be given," Gunasekara, who chaired the COPE committee that investigated the bond scam, said on Sunday. He said that Parliament had been dissolved on the day on which his report about the matter was to be presented in Parliament. "The new COPE was not formed and the evidence in my report was not submitted," Gunasekara recalled. The former COPE Chairman noted that the then central bank governor Arjuna Mahendran had said that he had acted on the instructions of the Prime Minister at that time. "I was the only one who was punished because I was the one that lost my national list membership was abolished," he remarked.
