New leader appointed for Communist Party

COLOMBO (News1st): Dr J. Weerasinghe has been appointed as the leader of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, the party said in a statement on Sunday. The new appointment comes in the wake of the former minister. D.E.W Gunasekara's resignation from the position. Gunasekara, the outgoing leader had nominated Dr Weerasinghe to the post, a nomination that was unanimously approved by the party's Working Committee. Weerasinghe will serve as general secretary, a position equivalent to the post of leader, according to the statement.
