Prison officer at Colombo Remand Prison arrested for Heroin possession

COLOMBO (News 1st): A prison officer attached to the Colombo Remand Prison was arrested in Borella on Friday (Aug 28) along with 94.132g of Heroin, police said. According to Sri Lanka Police, the arrest was made during a raid conducted by officers of the Western Province (North) Crimes Division. The arrested prison officer is a 49-year-old resident of Sirisara Uyana in Borella, and he will be produced at the Maligakanda Magistrates Court today (Aug 28), police further said. Meanwhile, a parcel containing 500g of Heroin left unattended in the Walekade area in Kandalama, Dambulla was seized by Police. According to Police, the stock was valued at over Rs. 5 million. Moreover, a suspect who goes by the alias, "Aletad Manju" was arrested along with three swords, four T-56 bullets. The arrest was made during a joint raid conducted by Police Special Task Force and Kirindiwela Police. The suspect is a resident of Meddegama, Kirindiwela.
