Colombo (News 1st); Minister Wimal Weerawansa today said he does not approve of legislation that was prepared to cater to individual needs.
Speaking in Colombo on Tuesday (25) the Minister said it is unacceptable if the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was enacted for the needs of individuals rather than the state.
Minister Weerawansa delivered a blow to the Chairman of the National Elections Commission for his contradicting approach with regard to the Provincial Council Elections.
He said the NEC Chief followed a lethargic approach on the matter during the previous government and following the election of a new government, he wants to speed up the process.
” It is wise for the National Elections Commission Chairman to retire before the Provincial Council Polls,” said Weerawansa.
The Minister also hinted at the possibility of abolishing the Provincial Councils with an acknowledging smile to a question posed by a journalist.
