Colombo (News 1st); Notice was issued on Ex-Minister Rajitha Senaratne and Ex-MP Hesha Withanage to appear at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing incidents of Political Victimization on the 03rd of September.
They were noticed based on a complaint filed by Former Customs Director-General Jagath Premalal Wijeweera, who is also the present Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media.
Wijeweera in his complaint claimed he was arrested on false charges of handing over 08 kilograms of gold confiscated by Sri Lanka Customs to the Sri Lanka Navy to deposit inside the Sandahiru Seya, in an improper manner.
He claimed his arrest during the Yahapalana (Government of Good Governance) administration was politically motivated.
He further claimed there was an attempt at the time to imprison former Defence Secretary & Present President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in any possible case.
To prove his claims, Wijeweera produced copies of hostile statements made by Rajitha Senaratne and Hesha Withanage on the Rajapaksa's which were published via electronic and print media.
Commission chair Retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne considering the facts presented to the PCoI announced Ex-Minister Rajitha Senaratne and Ex-MP Hesha Withanage will be named as respondents in the matter.
Further examination of evidence was postponed to the 03rd of September.
