COLOMBO (News 1st): Power supply to several areas of Kalutara, Nuwara-Eliya and Pannitipitya was disrupted due to heavy rainfall and strong winds, Sulakshana Jayawardena – Media Spokesperson at the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy said on Thursday (Aug 6).
According to the Ministry of Power, electricity supply to Ratnapura, Kiriella, Mathugama, Padukka, Homagama and Awissawella was also disrupted due to heavy rainfall.
“There was no impact to counting of votes,” the Ministry emphasized.
Meanwhile, heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts, the Department of Meteorology said on Thursday (Aug 6).
The Met Department further said wind speed is expected to increase up to 50-60 kmph at times over the island particularly in Northern, North-central, North-western and Western provinces and in Hambantota, Trincomalee and Matale districts.
