Youth dies due to drowning in Mahaweli River

COLOMBO (News1st): A female youth has died due to drowning in the Mahaweli River near the Weragantota Bridge in Mahiyanganaya on Sunday. Two youths had been rescued by area residents while drowning in the river and then admitted to the Mahiyanganaya Base Hospital. However, attempts to save the life of Nethmi Navodya, an 18-year old resident of Kurunegala had not proven to be successful. The other youth is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Mahiyanganaya Base Hospital. Approximately 30 people have drowned near the Weragantota bridge in Mahiyanganaya, News1st's correspondent reported.
