Ampara (News 1st) ; A herd of wild elephants were caught on camera breaking through an electric fence, which was meant to keep them away, and cross in to farmland in Walathapitiya, Ampara in the Eastern Province.
The journey of elephants begins from the Buddhangala Forest and ends in Deegawapiya and this electric fence in the middle of this elephant trail.
What is even more interesting is, a lead elephant was caught on video crawling under the electric fence with ease, clearly demonstrating the electric is dysfunctional.
Having understood the fence is not a threat, one of the lead elephants decided to pull down the fence and allow the rest of the herd to pass.
