COLOMBO (News 1st): There is an increased risk in the spread of Dengue due to the rainy season, health sectors warned on Thursday.
“23 Dengue patients have died so far, this year, and a total of 23,000 Dengue patients have been reported across the island with an increasing rate of dengue cases from Kaduwela and Athurugiriya in the Western Province,” Dr. Aruna Jayasekara – Director at the National Dengue Control Unit said.
According to Dr. Jayasekara, 25 dengue patients were recorded from Kaduwela region last week alone, and a special dengue eradication program will be conducted focusing the Kaduwela Medical Officer of Health zone on 1st and 2nd August.
He said there is an increase in the rate of dengue patients reported from Kandy, Ratnapura and Colombo districts.
Dr. Jayasekara urged the general public to clean their surroundings and prevent the spread of Dengue mosquitoes.
