COLOMBO (News 1st); A media briefing organized by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna revealed startling details of an attempt to remove SLPP National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa from the election arena.

SLPP Candidate Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said there is a conspiracy against Basil Rajapaksa as a certain group who held a meeting at a five-star hotel in Colombo, have understood it is Basil Rajapaksa who is preparing the foundation for the SLPPs election win.

He said, at the meeting, it was conspired to eliminate Basil Rajapaksa from the scene, if not the conspirators would never be able to gain power.

Abeywardena said a complaint will be filed with Sri Lanka Police over the matter adding a request would be made to provide additional special security for Basil Rajapaksa.

He said the reports which suggest elimination, could be viewed as a threat to the life of Basil Rajapaksa.

“One person had mentioned if Basil Rajapaksa is not eliminated from the political arena, the Rajapaksa’s would remain in power for many years to come,” revealed Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena.

He said more details cannot be revealed, as an inquiry is taking place.
