COLOMBO (News1st): A court has ordered a teacher to be remanded until August 5 for abusing a group of boys recently.

The order was issued after the suspect had been produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court on Sunday.

The victims have been produced for medical tests, Chairman of the National Child Protection Authority Professor Muditha Vidanapathirana said.

According to the police, a child is subject to abuse once in two hours in Sri Lanka, and that 70% of abuse had been committed by close relatives or acquaintances of the victims.

Police added that there are incidents of child abuse that are not reported to the police as well.
