Colombo (News 1st); Attorney General Dappula De Livera has informed the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, the Draft Circular Instructions for Public Health Inspectors to control COVID-19 during the period of the elections are contrary to law.
Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne speaking to News 1st said this is because the powers of the Public Health Inspectors to directly enter premises of Election Propaganda Meetings and Polling Stations in order to detain and prosecute have been removed and made subject to the directions of the Medical Officer of Health (MOH).
