Illegally parked vehicles will be towed away; owner will cover towing costs; Police

Colombo (News 1st);  Sri Lanka Police will start towing away vehicles which are illegally parked and are parked on the pavement, starting from Friday (17th July).

Deputy Police Chief Ajith Rohana said in event the vehicle needs to be taken away by a tow truck or any other support vehicle, the owner of the vehicle in question will have to cover the towing cost.

Legal action will be instituted against violators in accordance to the provisions of the Motor Traffic Act of Sri Lanka and the National Thoroughfares Act, and when found guilty a violator will be sentenced to prison or a fine.

Further, if damage is cause to the pavement and the road when parking, legal action will be taken against the vehicle owner under the provisions of the public property act, said DIG Ajith Rohana.
