Colombo (News 1st); Ex-MP Tiran Alles and three other defendants named in the Reconstruction and Development Agency or RADA case were released from all indictments today.
Colombo High Court Judge Pradeep Hettiarachchi made the order after considering the submission made by the Attorney General, the case against the defendants will not be carried forward.
Court ordered for the passports of all defendants, except for the second suspect Anthony Emil Kanthan, to be returned to them.
The overseas travel ban imposed on the defendants was lifted by court as well.
Counsel for Anthony Emil Kanthan requested court to make null the arrest warrant issued by court, however, the High Court Judge noted the request should be made after producing the defendant in court.
Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing for the Attorney General said action will be taken against the first witness from the prosecution, the CEO of RADA, Chandrakanthi Fernando as the evidence provided when the case was filed and the evidence provided recently, contradicted each other.
The Attorney General filed the case on several indictments against the four defendants, including the criminal misappropriation of Rs. 200 million provided by the treasury to the Reconstruction and Development Agency for the construction of houses to families affected by the 2004 Tsunami in the North and East of the country.
The Attorney General filed indictments against Ex-MP Tiran Alles, Emil Kanthan as well Saliya Wickramasuriya and Jayantha Dias, from the RADA management.
