Colombo (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Cabinet of Minister gave the green light to purchase 04 helicopters for the Sri Lanka Air Force for training purposes.
Joint Cabinet Spokesperson Minister (Dr.) Ramesh Pathirana said the President on behalf of the Ministry of Defence presented a proposal to the Cabinet on Wednesday (08) to purchase 04 used helicopter by calling competitive international tenders.
He said at present the Sri Lanka Air Force is deployed in Sudan and the Central African Republic in Peacekeeping Missions and it has become important to train Sri Lanka Air Force pilots engaged in such missions.
Dr. Ramesh Pathirana went on to note Sri Lanka Air Force currently uses two helicopters manufactured in 1982 for training purposes and they will be replaced by the 04 used helicopters which will be procured in the future.
